9/28 Marsteller

Varsity 15-25, 25-21, 3-15

As GVMS traveled to Marsteller yesterday, serve receive haunted both teams. The first game was rough for the varsity, and they fell behind quickly against the strong serving Bulldogs. However, in the second game, the girls came together as a team, and started looking like the defending Regional Champs they are. Again, Ashley Mead led the team in defense and Leah Smith led the team in kills. Unfortunately, the girls again struggled with serve receive in the third game and were not able to recover.

 

JV 8-25, 13-25

Again, serve receive was the weakest element for the JV squad, and the girls had great difficulty passing a Bulldog serve in the first game. The passing was better in the second game,  but the offense was not able to put three hits together to get the ball back over the net. The girls also had trouble serving the ball to the Bulldogs once we did get a sideout.

9/26 Stonewall

Varsity 18-25, 25-23, 15-11

After a slow start to the season opener against Stonewall, the varsity squad was able to pull out a win. Leah Smith led the team in kills while Ashleigh Mead and Natlaie Ashley led the team in defense.

 

JV 15-25, 20,25

The JV team was not as successful. In the first game the girls had difficulty with serve receive. In the second game the girls played much better and the passing was much better, allowing the offense to set up three hits. This was the first volleyball game the majority of the girls have ever played, and considering that, they played well.
